The Spirit of O2 Awards

The Brief:

The Spirit of O2 Awards are the pinnacle of the O2 recognition calendar and since launching in 2003 have become a much anticipated and loved event, and a real part of the O2 DNA. It’s all about building employee engagement, driving loyalty and celebrating truly great achievements of O2 staff.
Sledge Film and Video was briefed to create a programme launch film which was to be sent out to O2 employees encouraging participation in the build up to the awards. The brief also required Sledge to produce an inspiring event opener film as well as finalist videos and a post event film. All of the films were to be based around the theme of heroes.

The Solution:

Sledge Film and Video created a dramatic pre-event film in order to engage O2 staff and drive them to take part in the nomination process. The film was used to introduce the award’s ‘heroes’ theme and coincided with an internal launch and poster campaign. The teaser, similar in style to a movie trailer, was set to dramatic music and featured projected titles.

The series of films created specifically for the awards night were shown the UK’s largest screen at the Vue Cinema in The O2. The event opener is similar in style to the teaser film but employs
impressive 3D technology to wow the audience. Set in London, the film takes the audience on a virtual roller coaster with a fly-through where both buildings and titles leap out of the screen.  Once you reach the last skyscraper, The O2 arena is revealed and bright searchlights blast out of the screen projecting the Heroes of O2 graphic. To achieve this, we teamed up with Dolby to tailor our animation to the venue for what was the first time that modern 3D had ever been used in a corporate environment. Sledge Film and Video produced two further pieces of film for the event; the finalists videos, which featured stories of the top O2 nominees, and a post-event film.

The Results:

The pre-event film was hugely successful in driving O2 staff to take part in the nominations process and generated much excitement in the build up to the event.  Audiences were really impressed with the 3D event opener film which got the event off to a fantastic start and set the tone for the evening. It also gave Sledge a few firsts: The first corporate use of modern 3D, the first use of Dolby’s Fixed Filter System and the largest non-IMAX 3D projection.
